8 Grown-Up Outfit Ideas That Work in Your 30s, 40s, 50s and Beyond

We're on the fence when it comes to giving out style advice based on age. Trends shouldn't have anything to do with how old you are — whether you're 20 or 80, you should be able to wear what you want. However, there is one thing we will say: the older you get, the more you tend to hone your sense of style and find the signature pieces that suit you. 'Ageless style' is now something we all aspire to, and whether you're in your thirties or sixties the below outfits are easy to replicate and stylish, as well as still staying on top of 2018's key trends. Keep scrolling to see — and shop — our favourite 'ageless' outfits.

Style Notes: Grece Ghanem's Club Monaco trousers Look amazing with her fluted white shirt and black mule sandals. The straw boater and black-out sunglasses make it extra glamorous.

Style Notes: Keeping it simple and chic, Kat from Does My Bum Look 40 opts for the classic Breton roll-neck top, black leather trousers and a black jacket.
Wear with any black, grey or white top, and throw your favourite blazer over the top.
Style Notes: Hot pink isn't only for people in their 20s. This colour suits all ages and sizes, as proven by the gorgeous Gillean McLeod. Pair with a crisp white shirt to make this hue really sing.
The oversize cuffs make this super modern.
Style Notes: Tamu McPherson is a street style favourite, so it's no wonder she makes our list here. The sharp tailoring of this bold red jacket instantly smartens up her straight-leg jeans and strappy sandals.
A classic you'll keep in your wardrobe for a long time.
Style Notes: The clashing pink and red combo is ideal for making a statement. Proof again that pink isn't age-specific.
Perfect for the upcoming warmer months.
Style Notes: The bell sleeves and the buttons down the side of this dress make it a total modern classic. You always need a black frock in your wardrobe for those knockout moments.
A black dress you'll never regret buying.
Style Notes: In street style favourite Garance Dore, we have a woman who likes her basics, such as loafers. While the whole outfit is as chic as all her other ensembles, it's the flat shoes that make it.
With jeans or dresses, these go with everything.
Style Notes: A black jacket is always a must.
When has a black blazer ever been a bad idea?
Style Notes: Proof that anyone can do the geek chic glasses trend and look incredible.
At £12, if you hate the look, it hasn't broken the bank.
Style Notes: Art director Kim Mitchell Stokes knows that an incredible pair of jeans will go a long way. Even when you're wearing a bold sweatshirt and a pair of heels, the jeans pull this whole look together.
Try a darker blue jean for a more flattering hue.
Style Notes: Janise, who runs Mama In Heels, is always immaculately dressed. She is a lover of the off-the-shoulder top and a pretty skirt, but it's her love of bags that caught our eye. Whether it's the latest Chloe bag or a pink Prada tote, she's always carrying something that completes her look.
This has got wedding guest written all over it.
Style Notes: If there's one thing we've learnt from these stylish over 40 bloggers, it's to embrace the pieces that suit you the most. Flares are universally flattering on almost everyone, as they balance out the body, so take a tip from Carelia, who runs My Small Wardrobe, and invest in a pair.
Try your flares with a little crop and frayed-hem detail.
Style Notes: While you might still love to opt for the basics, be a little more adventurous and switch up a trusty denim jacket for one that's embellished.
A gentle dusting of pearls along the collar and top pockets make this a truly grown-up version of the denim jacket.
Style Notes: A tunic might sound boring on paper, but when you pair it with cropped culottes and a pair of sandals, you've got yourself a chic outfit.
Wear over jeans in the spring and as a dress in the summer.
Style Notes: Perennially chic Caroline de Maigret does the "soccer mom" look in style, which is all down to her wearing a cool pair of trainers.

Style Notes: At Who What Wear UK we are big fans of Rixo, and we love how Kat paired her sleeved printed midi Rixo dress with equally vibrant yellow slippers. When in doubt, add a pair of more-is-more earrings into the mix too.

Style Notes: Lyn from Icon Accidental shows that basics never need to be boring, as she is an expert at playing with proportions and making classic tailoring look dramatic. Long shirt sleeves and sweeping blazers always look expensive.

Style Notes: French fashion editor Sophie Fontanel is one of the best dressers we know, and the secret to most of her best outfits is a colourful statement jacket.

Style Notes: A khaki jumpsuit, leopard coat and slip-on trainers is fashion-forward, but an easy-throw on outfit you can wear whether you're at Paris Fashion Week or doing your weekly shop.

Style Notes: We love how Frann adds definition to her look by looping a belt over the top of her jacket.
