Obsessed With the Relaxed Garments From This Scandi Retailer? Us Too

We have the H&M Group a lot to thank for when it comes to our wardrobes (our bank balances less so, however). From H&M to COS, Arket to & Other Stories, we're fans of the very different niches the Swedish giant has carved out in all corners of the high street. But we have a particularly soft spot for Monki. Why? Because as the title of this article suggest, it's clothes are supremely comfortable and have that Scandi sensibility of being quite minimalist—but in an approachable way. This isn't the place for a ruffled, broderie Anglaise shirt, but it could throw up a chic shirt dress that costs the same as a round of drinks and which you'll turn to for years to come. There's so many reasons we love this store, read on to find out…

Sure, its physical stores might be skewed towards teenagers, but look past the glittery ceiling and you’ll discover great plain tees, cropped ribbed tops, shirt dresses and wide-leg trousers. And turns out it’s a sleeper hit with teachers, who need comfortable but cool clothing to last long working days (really though, who doesn't favour an elasticated waistband?).

An easy, flippy dress in an unexpected pastel hue.
When it comes to denim, Monki is highly rated.
Dip a toe into the playful sunglasses trend with these beauties.
    Easy jeans for everyday.
This reminds us of a certain cult knit from last winter... but at a tenth of the price.
    Your heatwave-proof pants.
This looks like it could be from Monki's sister (and more expensive, store) & Other Stories.
It has a jewellery collection that is small but perfectly formed.
Monki's effortless jumpsuits are revered around the world.
It's also great for basics-with-a-twist. While you're here... discover our hack for getting the best shopping experience at H&M

As well as model shots, lots of products pics online are complemented by Instagram posts of people wearing a particular item (like this), which is not only great for styling inspiration, but ideal for seeing more detail in regards to fit and cuts. For a chance of being featured, all you have to do is tag your pics @monki and #monkistyle.

If all-in-ones are your thing, then bookmark the site now. At present count it has 62(!) different playsuits, dungarees and jumpsuits, all varying from dressy and fluid to denim and structured, and all very democratic when it comes to taste. Style blogger Hannah Gale, pictured above, captioned her Instagram post of her wearing a sought-after style, best sums up their appeal: “Remember that polka dot jumpsuit I wanted from @monki? Well GUESS WHO found it for £12 in the Carnaby Street store last week? Spoiler: it starts with H and ends with annah Gale. Feeling v smug because it fits like a glove and is 10 out of 10 comfy ."

‘Not too fussy’ is the best way of describing Monki’s design DNA, and this extends to its swimwear. Sure, there are striped, spot-print and patterned swimuits, but there’s a stellar offering of block-coloured two pieces, which can be bought separately and mixed and matched accordingly.

If you’re prone to weight fluctuations, this is another reason to seek out Monki. A lot of products come in oversize shapes and feature elasticated waistbands, so they’ll end up being some of the most versatile pieces you own. What bloat?

Nicely rounded figures and student-friendly price tags makes Monki avaialble to all. An embroidered tee capable of reviving an old skirt is £10; a denim pinafore is £25. There are no nasty surprises at the till occurring here.
